Special Olympics- Review

The 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games benefitted not only the athletes who participated but also the volunteers and staff members who hosted the event. Many reported learning life lessons from the athletes, including confidence, optimism, and enthusiasm during tough situations. The athletes displayed tremendous amounts of respect for each other, even those competing in the same event, and were often seen celebrating with each other and enjoying each others’ company even if they did not speak the same language. The Games provided a wonderful opportunity for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to compete, challenge themselves, and experience American culture all in the same location.

The 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games were held this year in Los Angeles. This was the first time the Games had been held in the United States in 16 years. Approximately 6,500 athletes from 165 countries around the world arrived in the United States ready to compete for the gold medal in their events. With all of these athletes present though, there are many volunteers and organizers behind the scenes who make sure that the Games are able to occur without major difficulties. The Games are a great platform to celebrate individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, giving them lasting memories.

Drought- Review

After talking with two visitors in California from Arizona, it is apparent that the drought has majorly changed the lush state people previously recalled.
Those who have only been in the state for a short amount of time can tell that water is at record lows, and drastic measures by both private and government agencies have been taken to reduce the impact of this shortage of a vital resource.

In a large state that desperately needs water, everyone from long-time residents to casual tourists is hoping that relief comes in abundance and quickly to end the harsh effects of this drought.

Drought- Preview

The drought in California is an ongoing natural phenomenon that is seriously disrupting lives of the state’s natives and visitors on a level not been seen in recent history.
This water crisis is not predicted to end in the near future, and the impact of the shortage only increases with time and the water continues to dwindle.
Both residents and guests of the state are grappling with how the drought impacts them on an individual basis.
It is not difficult to see that as a result of this drought, changes have been made across many levels, and this is particularly evident when talking with people on the street.
